The word that kept coming to my mind as I was reading -- but which you in fact never used -- was 'winsome', that great mantra of Aaron Renn's Neutral World in American evangelicalism.

You've been talking about intra-church communication, but I think your insights extend to speaking to non-Christians. There are times to speak softly and be 'winsome', but there are also times (increasingly, I think) to take a stand and speak with conviction.

I appreciate the comment. Yes, my focus of this piece was how we communicate in churches, but the principles apply broadly to how Christians speak in the public square and elsewhere. Acts 17 and Acts 19 are two examples of different approaches and results to speaking to unbelievers.
