Progressive Christianity is a Parasite
Progressive Christianity is a parasite.
They survive by marketing their products to conservatives who buy them.
This is especially true with teaching materials on sexuality. This is the most important ideological battlefield of our day and progressives want to capture and colonize the conservative market.
Conservative theology produces healthy churches that are a target rich environment for parasite theology to spread.
In other words, conservatives keep progressives afloat by buying their books, videos, and going to their conferences.
Progressive Christianity cannot survive on its own. It survives because unsuspecting conservatives support and fund it.
Scripture said this would happen. Jude 4 says false teachers have “crept in unnoticed,” who “pervert the grace of our God into sensuality.”
It's always been this way. They want their heresy to go “unnoticed.” It's up to us to notice what they don't want us to notice.
One popular progressive organization, “The Center for Faith, Sexuality & Gender,” run by Preston Sprinkle, markets itself to conservative Christians with reassuring language that they are biblically faithful.
They market themselves as “theologically sound,” promising a “robust biblical ethic of marriage, sexuality and gender” that helps people answer questions with “theological faithfulness.” Not to worry, they believe “all sex outside of marriage is sin.”
Their statement of faith says the Bible is “our final and ultimate authority for all matters of faith and practice” and that they support the “historical, Christian view of marriage.”
(In the screenshots below, the yellow highlighted words are meant to reassure you they’re conservative and biblical. The red circled words are flagged because they manipulate positive sounding words to undermine orthodox belief.)
Sounds great, right? It's brilliant marketing, frankly. They appeal to conservatives who need guidance on tough issues of sexuality with language that fosters trust. But once you get past their faux-conservative facade you'll find materials in support “side B” Christianity, “gay Christianity,” pronoun hospitality, and conference speakers that identify as gay and transgender.
Pay attention to how progressives manipulate words like “safe,” “compassionate” and “love.” Compassion and love are good virtues that weaponize use to undermine truths they don't like.
Pay attention to words like “story” and “narrative.” These words are used under the influence of post-modernism that makes all truth subjective according to one's “lived experience.”
Progressivism rarely presents itself honestly because they rely on conservative dollars to keep the machine running. Though progressivism is the product, conservatism is the marketing strategy.
Christians buy products that are marketed on the trustworthiness of historic, biblical Christianity because they love God, trust his word, and want to be obedient. But conservative pastors, leaders, and parents often unwittingly pay for their own deception because the marketing pitch seems plausibly biblical.
Watch out for this. False teachers market their products explicitly to conservative audiences by touting their conservative credentials. They know that's the only way we'd buy it.
Starve the parasites. Cleanse out the old leaven. Don't buy their products.
