This article reminds me of a little joke I heard as a child.
A man is caught in the middle of a flood, and climbs onto the roof of his house. The water continues to rise, and he cries out, "Oh Lord, save me from this flood!"
An hour later, a man in a boat arrives. The man in the boat says, "Hey, get in the boat! I'll rescue you!"
The Christian on the roof says, "No! I'm waiting on the Lord!" and sends the boat away. The waters continue to rise, and now the man is up to his neck in water.
A helicopter arrives, and the pilot throws a ladder down. "Climb up! I'll rescue you!"
Defiantly, the man turns the helicopter away. "I don't need man's strength to save me, I'm waiting on the Lord!"
The waters continue to rise, and the man drowns. In heaven, he comes to God, and throws his hands in the air. "Lord, why didn't you save me? I trusted in you!"
God frowns, and responds, "Well I sent you a boat, but you didn't like that... and I figured, no way he'll turn down a helicopter!"
Ahaha -- I love it. Just pre-ordered. You know, you could have saved me a great deal of pain and suffering if you and Joe Rigney could just get in a time machine and write your books in 2019.
I'm Lutheran theology, every command has both a positive and a negative aspect. It is as much a sin to break the positive aspects as it is to break the negative ones. There is certainly a need guy this understanding in today's Laodicean American Christian Church. Thank you for bringing this into the conversation.
So what is your rebuttal to his argument then, or do you have one? Seems as though you are just offering your own thinly veiled ad hominem attack. He didn’t call other Christians losers, by the way, he called the concept of passivity disguised as piety “loser theology.”
This is pretty reductionistic for someone with a master's level degree. Calling other Christians "losers" will definitely get you noticed by Tom Ascol et. al. but it doesn't offer any weight or credibility to your argument. Neither, by the way, does beating up straw man arguments. Go forth to love and serve the Lord and we will too!
